MISA / SAMU

 

MISA is a registered trade union and was formed following the merger of the merger of the Motor Industry Staff Association (MISA) and the SA Motor Union (SAMU) with a joint history of 129 years in the Retail Motor Industry.

 

The combined synergy that is generated out of this merger is to the benefit of all administrative and technically qualified employees in the industry.

 

Today we have a membership of some 30,000 countrywide.

 

We at our Union are very proud of the many achievements reached over the past 50 years and we are well placed to continue serving our members’ interests. Apart from the excellent free legal services offered by the Association, members also enjoy the following benefits:

 

1. MISA BENEFIT FUND

 

All MISA members automatically belong to this fund, which provides cover similar to “life insurance”. A qualifying period of 52 weeks applies to this fund.

 

BENEFITS

After 52 weeks’ consecutive contributions have been received the benefit is R15,000.00

 

NOTE: From 1 March 2002 until further notice the aforementioned 52 week condition will be suspended in respect of all new MISA members, and will therefore not be applicable.

NOTE: Payments are made directly to the next of kin upon the death of a member. The benefits do not become assets in the deceased person’s estate.

 

 

2. MISA FUNERAL FUND

 

All members of MISA automatically belong to this fund. The Fund also covers a member’s immediate family such as a spouse, children and adopted children (up to the age of 18 years, unless such children are registered as fulltime students or physically or mentally handicapped).

 

A qualifying period of one week applies to this fund.

 

BENEFITS

DISCOUNTS ON FUNERALS

30% to 54% discount available from AVBOB.

 

3. MATERNITY FUND

 

This fund, administered by MISA, provides a maternity benefit to the value of R1 000.00.

NOTE: A total of 26 weeks contributions must have been received.

NOTE: Application must be made within 13 weeks from date of birth.

 

4. RETRENCHMENT FUND

 

This fund provides retrenchment benefits to the value of R1 000.00 per retrenchment.

NOTE: A total of 26 weeks contributions must have been received.

NOTE: Application must be made within 13 weeks from date of retrenchment.

 

5. HEALTHCARE

 

 Members may, in consultation with their employers, select between:

NOTE: Membership of Moto Health Care is voluntary within the MIBCO environment.

 

6. MOTOR INDUSTRY PROVIDENT FUND

8. CONTINGENCY RESERVE

 

This fund provides financial support to members in respect of outstanding Medical Aid Fund, Pension Fund and Union contributions, in the event of the liquidation of their employers’ businesses.

   

9. SERVICE CONTRACT FOR YOUR DOMESTIC WORKER

10. UNFAIR LABOUR PRACTICES / DISMISSAL

 

We also provide professional advice and assistance to members in instances of Unfair Labour Practices / Dismissals.

 

FEES

R11.50 PER WEEK

 

Non-union employees are therefore encouraged to join MISA – “The Intelligent Alternative” and experience the benefits and protection of your interests.

 

CONTINUATION MEMBERSHIP

 

Upon retirement a member who is able to satisfy our unions constitutional prescriptions in regard to past service, may apply for continuation membership of the MISA / SAMU Benefit and Funeral Fund.
