RETAIL MOTOR INDUSTRY ORGANISATION [RMI]
RMI is the proactive, relevant, employer organisation
recognised both as the leading voice in the retail motor industry serving the daily
business and labour needs of its members, and for its key role in enabling motor traders
to deliver top class service to motoring customers in Southern Africa. The RMI is
headed by Labour and Business Chambers covering the interests of employers and
entrepreneurs of all 12 sectors of the retail motor industry. Chambers have an
elected 11-member Board of Directors, four from each Chamber and a further three
Captains of Industry.
Anybody offering a motoring service from a fixed
address will qualify for Basic Membership of the RMI. These members
will have access advice on labour, business and trade matters; opportunities to attend a
selection of motor industry training courses; assistance with
gaining access to technical data and information, attendance at regional RMI
conventions participation
in the RMI Club which offers benefits and discounts based on the bulk buying
generated by the whole organisation; and social security
benefits. The
basic member will also be given focused assistance to upgrade to become a fully accredited
member in the correct business sector.
As soon as accreditation is achieved, the member will
inherit the right to display the RMI logo associating them with the Code of Conduct
governing standards of service being offered by RMI members countrywide.
The RMI participates in all relevant labour forums,
represents members interests in the administration of social security funds,
interacts with Government and participates in all bodies and discussion groups [the MIDP,
the SABS, Business South Africa and the like] which could possibly impact on business
objectives, and look for ways to improve business performance.
Through the RMI, the only official registered Employer
Party to MIBCO, unique and meaningful labour services are provided in five major areas:
Instantly available personalised Industrial Relations (IR) advice and consultation
facilities for employers in all employee interfaces.
Inputs on and interpretations of new labour legislation.
Vigorous recruitment of new members giving RMI greater representivity
Development and managing training programmes to increase the abilities of member
businesses and the people they employ and
Wage and employment agreement negotiations with trade unions.
